District Governor, Denis Spiller, welcomed the new club to the district and spoke about the difference Rotary Clubs are making worldwide

"When a Rotary Club receives its charter, it's like a knight earning his spurs. The club is ready to fulfill its aims of service to the community at home and abroad. Rotary in Kent is growing and the most positive sign is a new club. Canterbury Sunrise Rotary Club is young and vibrant and is fast becoming a valuable contributor to the community. Its current 30 members is destined to become 40 before too long. This club is going to achieve great things.

The fundraising and immunisation working towards the eradication of Polio from this planet is almost complete thanks to 22 years of sustained effort by Rotary clubs around the world, The chartering of the new Canterbury Sunrise Rotary Club, will make the completion of the job that little bit easier and quicker"

The creation of the Rotary Club of Canterbury Sunrise means that Canterbury is now served by 3 clubs, one which meets for breakfast, one for lunch and another for dinner, creating options for any potential new members and existing Rotarians just visiting the city. The new club is proof that Rotary can be modern, flexible and appeal to all professions, to men and women of all ages (Sunrise members range in age from 24 - 60) who all enjoy Fun, Fellowship and Service, the cornerstone of Rotary".

After receiving the official Charter from the District Governor, Founder President, Jarle Tatt said

"Reaction to the formation of our new Club has been fantastic. I am particularly gratified by the amount of interest shown by so many people in the vicinity, of various ages and backgrounds, wishing to find out more about the good work of Rotary. It is an excellent conduit for giving something back to local and International communities, a valuable enhancement to our lifestyles. Long may this continue."
